January Spring

2024
Oil on Arches paper
12" x 16"

A quick invention painting, I could tell I was looking forward to spring.

Large red and orange vertical waving lines move from top to bottom. A patch of bright yellow, blue and pale blue sit to the left, moving in a curve to match the larger red shapes. A pale white separates the two main upward pillars while a plant-like form emerges from the right ground of the painting. Blue patches imply leaves while the pale and darker blues to the right suggest sky. Small, energetic palette knife dashes and curves of color move throughout, echoing the larger shapes.
