This was another fast painting not long after returning from my first visit to Rome. The Pantheon experience stays with me and I think appears here, in a small way.

Dark black lines cut across the paper in strong, rhythmic diagonal patterns. A pale gray blue color lays behind them, creating a sense of distance. Palette knife swatches of yellow, yellow green and orange travel behind and in places break through the black lines. A black area moves from the top to the bottom of the work on the right side of the work.
