Icicle Creek

2025
Oil on Arches paper
10" x 6.75"

This is part of a group of paintings inspired by a visit to Washington state.

The small oil on paper is painted almost completely with the palette knife. Blue and faded green mountains stand in the distance. Large pines sit in the foreground, dark green to the left in shadow with taller, spindly pines with bright yellow green and a few strikes of orange hatching stand to the right. The stone banks are large swatches of gray, white and lavender. Grasses and bushes are indicated with bright purples, reds and pinks along with vertical, knife edge marks adding the the feeling of motion. The busy creek rushes forward with bright white patches creating a sense of rapids.
